Description

This detailed map uses a variety of colors and lines to define the various administrative divisions of the Soviet Union in the late 1950’s. Areas and cities highlighted in red are closed to foreign travelers, while green dots indicate open cities (with notable restrictions).

Railroads, rivers, and political boundaries are also noted across the image – the last are defined according to a key to the left of the title block. An inset map in the upper left provides further details on the area around Moscow, while an annotation just below references a different map, likely originally issued within the same publication.
