Description

Home to the legendary Jayhawks (lower right), the University of Kansas was founded in Lawrence in 1865 and admitted its first students the following year. It’s seen here roughly 120 years later, with an equal emphasis on the campus and local businesses in the surrounding area.

An exaggerated stadium dominates the center of the image, which individually labels university buildings in a charming script. The eye is also drawn to the bright billboards advertising restaurants, radio stations, and retail stores. Amusing characters depicted in a variety of activities add vibrancy and activity to the image – a quintessential ‘look’ from the 1980’s and early 90’s.

The image was created by Joe Stites and published and produced by ARH Advertising of Overland Park, Kansas.
