Description

The White Sewing Machine Company was founded in 1858 and shortly afterward moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where it would spin off an automotive company and grow into a major manufacturer. This promotional booklet was distributed by the company as a free souvenir to attendees of the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago, known as the Columbian Exposition.

Lithographed views of the primary buildings by A. Zeese & Co. are accompanied by brief descriptions, and numerous advertisements for White products are shown throughout. A bird’s eye view of the fairgrounds makes up the centerfold.

Proving that marketing has no boundaries, phrases are plastered in white across each image, even at the foot of the king with a scene of Columbus announcing his discovery of the New World!
