Description

This marvelous illustrated poster was first drawn by Richard Cooper and published by the London Underground in 1930. This particular example was re-issued in 1979 by Sherval Press, but retains the vibrancy and charm of the original.

Across the page, eighteen different scenes from locations of interest across London are fully illustrated, with accompanying titles and corresponding Underground Stations provided above and below, respectively.

The variety of amusements were designed to appeal especially to children, as a way to boost family ridership across the rail network. Gog and Magog, traditional guardians of the City of London, can be seen in the center of the page, along with the city’s coat of arms.
