Description

This double-sided sheet was likely taken from a contemporary military publication or scrapbook maintained by M.M. Morrison, an ensign in the U.S. Navy Reserve. The subject matter is Shanghai, where Morrison, serving onboard the transport ship U.S.S. Talladega, made several trips to pick up troops to return to the West Coast.

The primary map shows the route from San Francisco to Shanghai and is dated June 16, 1946 – the last trip the ship made from west to east. The verso of the sheet is a simplified small scale map of the city, showing prominent locations in typeset. An interesting reflection on the occupation of China and operations of the U.S. Navy immediately after the war’s end.
