This useful, yet attractive, map covers the Olympic Peninsula in northwest Washington state and includes the cities of Seattle and Tacoma. A comprehensive legend in the center left provides some insight into the myriad of symbols, lines, and text within the image. Once deciphered, the map presents a wealth of information on the local transportation routes, recreational opportunities, places of interest, and geographic features.
Though the title block features a sailboat in the background, the publication was more likely intended for a terrestrial audience. It was created by Charles “Metsker the Map Man” in 1957. As noted in the lower left, “It pays to have a few good maps.”
