Description
This mid-century pictorial map of Pennsylvania and New Jersey was published in 1957 by the Schering Corporation. The pharmaceutical company was started in Germany in 1851 and its United States assets were seized during World War II and sold off to a private firm. The resulting company issued this pictorial map as part of a larger series exploring the history of medicine across America.
Numerous vignettes highlight important people, places, and events across Pennsylvania and New Jersey that significantly contributed to medical science. A list of doctor’s fees from New Jersey in 1784 can be seen in the lower center, along with other fascinating historical captions. The left side of the sheet contains affixed advertising cards for similar ‘landmarks’ in the therapy of corticosteroid-responsive disease, led by the groundbreaking introduction of the steroid prednisone.
