After illicitly supporting the overthrow of legitimate Hawaiian ruler Queen Liliuokalani, the United States was quick to annex the leaderless archipelago and organize it as an official territory in 1900. It would remain under this status until statehood in 1959.

This detailed topographic map shows the major islands and includes an inset map highlighting the Hawaiian Islands Birds Reservation. A table of distances to major ports throughout the Pacific is also provided.
