Description

During the 1950s and 1960s, the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia underwent a period of liberal reforms that saw increasing relations with Western powers. It became a founding member of the Non-Aligned movement of the Cold War and, in 1963, Tito officially changed the name of the country to the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. It was shortly thereafter that this pictorial tourist map was issued by the nation’s tourist bureau to an English-speaking audience.

Illustrated vignettes highlight locations of interest, industrial products, recreational activities, and local cultures. The key in the upper right identifies the symbols for transportation routes, accommodations, spas, service stations, and frontier crossings. An index of camping grounds and motorist facilities is provided on the right side of the page, while several inset maps of urban centers are shown along the bottom. Additional useful information for the intrepid traveler, such as a pronunciation guide, driving regulations, average costs, and more.
