Description

This charming pocket map was issued as a handy guide for visitors to the 1939 World’s Fair in New York City. The primary audience was apparently Girl Scouts and their families, as text on the verso encourages the reader to visit the Girl Scout Chalet. “Situated midway between the main concession area and the amusement concessions, it is the logical point from which to start your tour of the Fair Grounds.”

The location of the Chalet is shown on the accompanying map of the grounds, which is divided into seven primary sections. The verso includes a full-page map of Manhattan, locating principal points of interest and transportation routes. The Girl Scout Shop and National Headquarters are prominently noted along with the nearest subway stop to the World’s Fair.
