Description

Issued in the brief window between Alaskan (Jan. 3) and Hawaiian (Aug. 21) statehood, this promotional map of America’s 49 states would soon need updating. It was published by C.S. Hammond & Company on behalf of the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) for an advertising campaign in 1959.

The tin flag pins seen in the outer border could be found in boxes of Shredded Wheat cereal, and the map seen here on which they hung was obtainable via the mail. Facts and miscellaneous information about each state can be found on the back of its pin, each of which can be affixed to one another via the tab at the top and insert at the bottom.
