Description
Stretching from his home country of Macedonia to the Caucaus Mountains, the empire of Alexander the Great is one of the largest ever accumulated in one individual’s lifetime. Red lines show the leader’s ultimately disastrous march through India, though some of the territory was successfully conquered and does not appear to be credited towards the empire (shaded in pink).
Steel engraving by Erhard Bonaparte and published in Paris by A.H. Dufour around 1860.
